PAX Prime 2014: Hyrule Warriors
For some, Hyrule Warriors was ruined when they announced that they weren’t going to have online multiplayer. OK, I get it, some of the recent Dynasty Warriors had it and it’s kind of sad to take a feature out, but to just blow this game off simply because it lacks that feature would be doing yourself a great disservice. Doesn’t anyone remember playing old button-mashers and enjoying yourself?
My grubby little mitts went to play this game first at Pax Prime. Yeh, I went straight for the Nintendo display and waited and I was not disappointed. OK, well that’s actually a lie. Someone told me that Impa was going to be playable at Pax and she wasn’t so my fun-time with a giant sword-wielder was put out to pasture until later. So I did the next best thing in my book and went with Midna (since I figured Lana wouldn’t be available and I was right). I’ve already seen what Link can do and Zelda… well she looks interesting, but Midna looked pretty flashy and I do like to make the colors dance on the screen!
Midna was pretty fantastic. Granted, most Dynasty Warriors can come off as button mashers if you want them to. There are some combos you can do that make really sleek explosions and you wouldn’t want to miss out on that would you? No, of course you wouldn’t. Midna’s move-set revolves around her magic hair that can punch stuff (which is cool) and a faux-Link wolf/wolves that make for some pretty sweet combos that just send baddies flying. All of the characters can pick up the items so no worries about that. I was kind of wondering how I was going to kill King Dodongo without bombs when I didn’t need to (phew!).
This will be in my collection as soon as I can pick it up when it launches September 26th. I am excited!
