(Indiegogo Highlight) Proto-G
I like robots and I like it when robots fight. Don’t you? Heck, even Godzilla had to be mechanized at some point because: robots. In comes Proto-G; a hack and slash game currently on Indiegogo looking to get some help finishing up their game. In it you control a robot, code-named A.D.A.M. You are the protagonist robot setting out against a horde (For the Alliance!) of villainous robots that seem to be causing all sorts of trouble. As evil antagonistic robots are wont to do obviously.
The combat and gameplay really do play with the retro theme they are going for. I’m not saying it’s a 1:1 ratio of similarity here, but the game’s tempo reminds me a lot of Oni mixed with Virtual On. Now, I loved both of those games and while Proto-G reminds me of them both in a hybridized form, it doesn’t come close to them in execution. I realize that the game is in its early stages, but I’m a bit hesitant to jump on this train at this point in development. However, I can see the promise here even beyond the voices not being great (timing and execution) and the somewhat awkward gameplay (it’s not bad, but it is a little off). All of this can be polished out with a bit more love. Either way, give the demo a try because it’s free and it’s a quick showcase of the ideas they want to put forward. Let me know if you think I’m crazy in the comments below. If you dig it, consider tossing them some coin!
