(PAX West 2018) Element: Space

What a colorful and destructive Tactical Turn-Based Shooter. Element: Space is not bringing much new to the genre, but what it is bringing is good.

The usual cover systems are here with full and half cover, but you should be in cover. There are no grids to dictate where you can go so you can move into the middle of an open area in very specific spots if you so desire. Overwatch gives you a moving cone to mark specific spots on the map which gives you more control over it, but also seems to limit it from what I’ve grown accustomed to. One aspect I loved and hated is that basically all cover is breakable with at least two hits. This makes the battlefield an always changing field of death, so you’ve got to keep moving.  Blinding grenades, grappling-hooks and melee characters, Element: Space has a lot of fun options to use in combat. This is definitely one to keep your eyes on if you’re a fan of games like Xenonauts or X-COM.
