PAX Prime 2015: SteamWorld Heist

Having somewhat “recently” gotten off my SteamWorld Dig high, I was really looking to pick up a sequel. Alas, this is not destined to happen yet. (I have no insider information, but a man has to keep his hopes up.) So the next game in the franchise will be SteamWorld Heist. If the demo is an accurate representation of the final version, the game will be as fun as I want it to be.

You play as a band of scavengers going around looking for scrap and other goods from ships. Now, I’m not completely sure if you’re a band of thugs, but as a group wondering Cowbots, you’re definitely less worse than others bots out there. Your crew seems to be more like the plucky anti-hero types and I can get behind that. I’m not much for being the bad guy, so that would have been a deal-breaker for me.

SteamWorld Heist is a 2D turn-based strategy game. As you move through ships and/or different areas you’ll be moving from cover to cover to get a better shot on those that wish to do you harm. You’ve got to move and then line up your shot. Apparently there is also a thing about hats in this game; a lot of hats in fact. I got to shoot off a few before my time with the demo was done. I am excited to play SteamWorld Heist again. Hats off to Image & Form if this turns out to be as addictive as SteamWorld Dig is.
