I’ve just recently joined a bud’s Minecraft Realm and so as anyone who’s seen any of my previous builds, I don’t do small things. I’m not out to build the USS Enterprise, but it’s still rather grand in scope as far as casual builds go. My buds often tell me I spend way to much time designing things that should have been much simpler. That’s just not how I do things. I can’t fight it.
I’m also going to change how I present my RMMs from here on. I’m going to be spacing them out a bit more that way you’ll not have to keep checking in to see the progress being made; you’ll see the progress being made in a single RMM. So without further ado, I’m trying to create another floating island and hopefully this server will stay up long enough for me to complete my ambitious ideas.
This and the next few shots will be of the area surrounding the island to show how big I want this to be.
This was the last stretch I just finished clearing out. The minimum distance from the outside of the island to the outside world is 20. Sometimes it’s more, but I kept it roughly at 20 so I can pretty much be assured that it will be almost the same length from all sides.
You just got a pretty good shot of what the “island” looked like before I started to build on it. I’ve started building everything at once because I just can’t seem to focus well in Minecraft. I build where the spirit is leads me to build. That and when I’ve got an idea, I’ve got to get it out and run with it. So what does every floating island need? Well a few things to be self-sustaining. You’ll need living quarters but this was one of the last things I’ve been working on. I haven’t even made my room yet. It’s all just coming together slowly over time as needs arise. (Oh, and I carry a bed with me just in case the rest of the people want to sleep.)
The entrance to my main building for living and forging areas and all that jazz.
So I’ve made rooms that all are shaped the same with a specific height and all that and gave it some basic furniture.
Then there’s those people you say can have a room and build a bed higher than the roof is… I think I can work around this with half-slabs. Still, it’s the principle of it all.
You may be thinking to yourself, “Crap Jon, that’s a lot of cows, you can’t possibly need that many. You’re a monster!” To that I say…
This is the base of the library. Where you see grass is where there will be shelves of books.
They shelves will eventually be four bookshelves high. However, at this point I don’t have looting on a sword soooo… that creates a high demand for lot’s of cows. On the plus side, I’ll have plenty of steak!
The final thing I have to show you guys is my mausoleum. This is where I’ll be building my nether portal… in the basement.
Here’s a great timing shot of the stairs down.
Here you can see the stairs split and then go down again some more.
The stairs converge again and then go down into the room where my nether portal will reside. I’m really liking how the stairs turned out.
The nether portal room proper. That’s… not how I want the portal to look, but that was a gift from another person I said could stay in one of the rooms in the living quarters area. I’ll have to take it down and remake it in a really cool-looking fashion.
There you guys have it. That is the scope of what I’m working on now. I hope you’ve enjoyed the longer than average RMM. I’ll be making more progress and taking pictures as I go and will be living the “Randomly Minecraft Monday’s” name out by saying I’ll see you later than next week. Let me know if you like what you see in the comments below!
